The facility will be open this year Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays. The cost of admission will be: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $2 for students and a group rate of $1 per student. “We are very excited about our third season,” said Don McKendry, the site’s director. “In our first two seasons, we grew from 3,500 visitors to 5,200, and we look forward to further growth this year.” To that end, McKendry explained, several new exhibits are in place and several more are planned. In place for this season are models of an F86 airplane, which John Glenn flew, and a Russian MIG, of which Glenn downed three in Korea. Also added for this year is a display of photos depicting a list of all the aircraft flown by Glenn as well as photos of 5 which he flew, including a Consolidated PB4 (the Catalina Flying Boat), the North American Mitchell B25, the F4F Wildcat, the F4U Corsair and the F6F Hellcat. Future displays are a virtual interview with John Glenn, a display of shields for helmets used in the nation’s air & space program, and a display of Glenn’s accomplishments in the Senate, including the key leadership role he played in the worldwide ratification of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. “What we want to establish is the fact that the Glenn site is the kind of facility that can be visited not just once, but many times. These additions, as well as others we have planned, should peak people’s curiosity and we certainly look forward to seeing new and returning visitors this year,” McKendry noted.
